The video ends similarly to the intro, but instead walking in the opposite direction, this signifies to the audience that they have seen the post breakup of her relationships and how she is moving forward. Furthermore, these could also be the places where she began to breakup meaning she began and ended her relation in the same places.

Many shots are repeated throughout the music video, along with postmodernism this is a convention in modern music videos to show repetitive scenes with other scenes added as the video continues to make a built up structure, commonly used in love and relationship genres. This is suitable as relationships are similarly built with first things being repetitive then moving on later.

She is shown again in a second over the shoulder shot, playing the piano in sync with the music mixed with close ups of the pictures she threw, this shows how she is trying to move away from the past and forget about them and as Goodwin says, it creates realism as people going through stress often do something like listen or play to help aid them. however, there could be a second meaning which links to the previous point as the close ups are only a few of the pictures she threw, implying she wants to forget specific few and not all of her experiences.

Another over the shoulder we used was when she was tracked as she walks down a path during the night, this makes the audience question what she is going to do know and whether she regrets the things she’s done. This technique also allows the audience to get a deeper feeling of what she going through.

There are also uses of shots that focus on objects rather than the artist, an example is the slow motion coin as she flips it in the air, this demonstrates how she is taking chances between choosing to stay with her ex and moving on with her life instead of going back after him.

As the video continues, a scene of the artist throwing away pictures of her ex is also shown in slow motion, this indicates to the audience that she does not want to have him in her memories anymore. Many over the shoulder shots were used throughout the music video as they show the perspective of the artist’s view allowing the audience to get a closer view at the artist’s observations, however this one in particular was chosen as it shows that she is serious about her feelings and clearly wants to remove him from her memories. In contrast, another shot, low angle, was used within the scene cutting in and out called reverse cut, this showed the other side of the artist which was not previously shown in the shot before which may give a juxtaposed idea of her actually wanting to keep the memories, giving the audience a sense of regret.

Other shots are also included such as over the shoulder following her, tilts and different angles of her, this includes her in different locations like a dark pathway, sitting in a park next to a graffiti wall and looking away from a bridge. These shots were used to show the audience of her feeling sad and empty due to the loss of her loved one, these shots are also conventionally used in many forms of media to illustrate her being lost and not knowing what to do after going through a break up. The use of the darks and high contrasts further elaborate on her feelings of being sad and empty. In addition, uses of silhouettes of the artist on a bridge further shows the darkness contained within herself. Goodwin’s theory states that the involvement of the artist within the music video creates a realistic approach providing a connection between the audience and the artist, the creative moods also set a tone for the music video allowing the audience to better understand the genre of the music.

As the title sequence and intro ends, it jumps to a close up of the artist as she sings, this is the first time seeing the artist’s face, allowing us to get familiar with who she is and what she looks like. The close up also allows the viewers to see her as she expresses her emotions since she does not look very happy, in addition other shots are used like profile shots and mid shots to further show her feelings as well as show here lip syncing. The artist being able to be shown clearly also creates what is called iconography, which represents the artist’s unique style allowing viewers to clearly identify her apart from other artists.

The music video begins with some various locations including the artist, this give the feeling to the audience about being at the places and experiencing what the artist has. The video also ends in a similar way but with her walking away, making it look as though the viewers were moving along the journey with the artist. We followed a structural layout with a mix between lip syncs and scenes/ narratives, I got this inspiration from my case study of “See you again” by Wiz where it begins with a scenery then cuts to the lip syncs of the artist, followed on with an assortment between the two throughout the rest of the music video. Most of the shots where mid/long shots as well as establishing shots to show the different locations portraying the distances of travel and what she has gone through. Most of our music video was inspired from “See you again”, as they show a journey of a person, this idea can instantly be seen as both begin with scenes and the artist walking along a path, then similarly the artist moving away from the camera at the end.
